Robert and Joanne met at work. They both worked in the same office building and Joanne would always see Robert as they were leaving. It took a little while for Robert to finally work up the courage to talk to Joanne, who was starting to get frustrated by waiting for him! She thought the constant looks she gave him were enough to drop a hint, but it took him a month before the two actually spoke to each other. Robert and Joanne made a habit of chatting every night as they left work together and eventually started dating.
Robert proposed to Joanne when the two were on a holiday around Europe. When they were in Greece visiting family, Robert absolutely surprised Joanne at their family dinner. She was the only one who wasn’t in on the plan – apparently Robert and his relatives were planning it for months! Joanne recalls how there was a stunning sunset, they had both of our families around the table, drinks were flowing and the food was delicious. She couldn’t have asked for a more perfect proposal.
The two got married in a church that had been somewhat of a family tradition for Robert. His parents and siblings were all married there so it was a given that Robert and Joanne had their ceremony there, too. Blumenthal Photography was there to capture every amazing moment and the beautiful bride in all her elegance.
Joanne says that her white wedding day honestly felt like a fairy tale (and not just because of her gorgeous, custom-made princess gown.) The weather, the church, the forest outside, and having all of their loved ones there just made the day so special! They wanted something elegant, classic and timeless and they achieved just that.
The most important thing for Joanne and Robert was to just enjoy each other’s company and relax! Weddings can be so stressful and a lot of the time the bride and groom are running around greeting guests instead of relaxing and creating memories with each other. They wanted to make sure that they enjoyed the day together and took in absolutely every little detail of the day.
Joanne reflects that just having all of her family under one roof made the day so special. They both have such a huge family and it’s always difficult for them to get everyone together. Joanne’s sisters all live in different places and she has a lot of family from overseas, so spending this time together is something she’ll never forget.
When choosing the perfect place for her white wedding, Joanne knew their reception venue was the one as soon as she stepped inside. The Doltone House Jones Bay Wharf had that gorgeous, elegant, and luxurious feel which was perfect for them. They were able to add their own twist with the décor and there was plenty of space to house all of their guests.
The advice Joanne would give to future brides planning their wedding is to give yourself plenty of time to plan and prepare – at the very least, over 12 months. There’s no point rushing when you don’t have to and although it’s an incredibly exciting time, a last minute schedule can just stress you out and ruin the fun of planning. We gave ourselves plenty of time to get the right venue at the right time and I hardly stressed about all of the other finer details.
